Producing my magazine:

I used Blurb in order to create my double page spread; this program allowed me to constantly improve and amend my work and was able to allow me to improve my abilities to create a magazine. I began by adding in the images of the two individuals, Scott and Sam as well as the establishing and close-up shots of Cambridge. I used the templates and plans I made for my double page to give me guidance on where to place my content and images, (explained further in my document containing the drafts of my double page spread).

After deciding on my article title, I wrote the main content for the double page spread, by interpreting direct speech from Rob Young; and demonstrating stories from the 2 individuals. In my concluding section, I promoted the release of the documentary to create anticipation; and included social media links to target my millennial audience. After placing the text in the columns and on the page, I added subheadings to provide clarity to my audience. Using the text, I create convergence with the film ‘The Struggle’ and my documentary ‘More Than Homeless’.

I used Photoshop to create my front cover for my magazine; after taking the image for the cover, I uploaded it to Adobe Photoshop. I firstly focused on positioning and zooming in on the photo I selected; and then added a barcode to the bottom corner to fulfil conventions of a magazine. I then added the title, which has a sense of convergence with my article title and documentary title in terms of font and colour. Then I added text around the image, in terms of the article titles and what the magazine will contain, (explained further in my document containing the drafts of my front page).  I added elements such as ‘BRITISH EDITION’ and ‘SEPTEMBER 2018’ to add a high status to the magazine, and a form of brand identity.

While producing my magazine, I viewed mainly article and front covers of men’s lifestyle magazines to allow me to fulfil the contentions of my chosen magazine. I constantly revisited my magazine, to amend or improve any corrections I needed to, in order to produce the best product, I could.

Front page for magazine (planning + drafts):

Planning: I took some long shot images of the individual who would represent the actor, Rob Young, who stars in the film 'The Struggle'. I selected a bright, and appealing background to engage the audience; I kept a restricted colour palette in mind when taking these images to link back to my magazine article. By using warm, yellow tones in the image I was able to create convergence between my front cover, double page spread, and the title shown in the documentary. Using the rule of three, I ensured the individual was placed in the centre of the shot, and took up the majority of the image; to convey a high status and significance of a celebrity appeal to the magazine. In terms of proxemics, I placed the individual in the centre of the shot; to engage the audience, and to allow me to place my text on either side. I also left room on the top of the shot, to allow me to use a large, and bold title to create clarity and an appeal for my audie...
