Research into the 18-35 mainstream millennial audience:

I conducted secondary research, to develop a better understanding of millennials, in order to ensure I tailor my audio visual and magazine content to my millennial audience effectively. I also watched a variety of documentary on YouTube to highlight the main aspects and elements of being a millennial. I believe this research has allowed me to tailor my audio visual and my magazine towards a millennial audience. Websites I used: http://www.goldmansachs.com/our-thinking/pages/millennials/ https://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/millennials-millennial-generation https://www.forbes.com/sites/ashiraprossack1/2018/07/29/how-to-make-your-workplace-millennial-friendly/#3778d6d1409d YouTube sources: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqdm6aBUZII  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hER0Qp6QJNU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoMzv_zMxb0 Demographics and Psychographics:  Age:  18years-35years, and were born from 1980-2000.  So have grown up during the rise ...

Initial Ideas/ Brainstorm :

I have chosen to create a documentary which will have a factual style and tone on Homelessness in Cambridge. My show will be shown on Channel 5 as it has an informative tone and the majority of it's TV scheduling is showing factual shows. I need to continue my research into the style of documentary I want to create, and I will also continue research into the issue of homelessness. As I feel this is a severe and ongoing problem, whereby the victims of it are stereotyped and often misjudged.  Initially, I was considering focusing my observations on females that are homeless, however I have decided to broaden my target audience by researching into both genders. The majority of my research will be based around Cambridge, and will be focusing on the people that are affected in Cambridge by homelessness. I have decided that I will focus on individual stories of homeless people, and concentrate on their path into homelessness and briefly explore the impact it has had on their ...

Institutions of ITV and Channel 5 :

In order to gain some understanding of the institution  behind ITV I have researched using this website:  http://www.itv.com/commissioning/factual Jo Clinton-Davis, the controller of factual entertainment and Commissioning Editors such as Priya Singh and Satmohan Panesar explain that some of the appeal of factual shows is often created by a famous name or a well-known location being explored. My intentions for my show was to obtain a sense of realism, and intend to focus on the working-class and gain individual stories that aren't well-known; therefore my intentions contrast to the requirements needed for some factual shows on ITV. The Commissions team explains that the factual shows are most suited for the 8pm and 9pm time slot, this is similar to the time slot of Channel 5. Despite this time slot allowing me to target my chosen audience, the current shows on ITV are less authentic and cover more mainstream topics that I am aiming to cover.  ...

Summary of fictional and factual shows:

Summary of fictional and factual programmes on ITV and Channel 5: ITV: Overall, there are more factual tv shows than fictional throughout the week on ITV; the majority of factual shows are news shows, or talk shows such as The Jeremy Kyle Show or  Loose Women. There are news shows scattered throughout the day, and therefore attract a wide audience who are available to watch at different times of the day, (morning news, lunchtime news, and two evening news shows). The fictional side of the channel focuses on soap dramas and game shows; therefore attracting an audience of young adults. ITV has a more specific target audience than Channel 5, as the factual and fictional shows cover mature topics and have an informative style instead of a style that would attract even younger audiences. Channel 5: Similar to ITV, the fictional element of the shows contains many soap dramas or comedies such as Home And Away and Neighbours which attracts an audience of young adults; however t...

Initial Research for ITV and Channel 5

In order to gain this information I used radio times website; https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/tv-listings/?sd=13-06-2018%2017:00   By researching the style of these shows, and the timings of shows on both ITV and Channel 5 it allows me to get a broad overview of the type of shows both channels broadcast. Also this research allows me to find the target audience I want to direct my tv show towards. ITV:   (Wednesday time schedule ) Programme Title Schedule General Synopsis Genre Target Audience ITV News London 6-6:30pm News show, gives updated information about current affairs. Political  (factual) Aimed at middle class viewers who are educated on current affairs, and directed towards all genders and ethnicities.
