Research into the 18-35 mainstream millennial audience:


I conducted secondary research, to develop a better understanding of millennials, in order to ensure I tailor my audio visual and magazine content to my millennial audience effectively. I also watched a variety of documentary on YouTube to highlight the main aspects and elements of being a millennial. I believe this research has allowed me to tailor my audio visual and my magazine towards a millennial audience.

Demographics and Psychographics: 

Age: 18years-35years, and were born from 1980-2000. 
So have grown up during the rise in the use of technology; and have grown up surrounded by a fluid and constantly changing society.

Gender: Male 
Millennials often have a more open mind and relaxed opinion on gender.

Location: Cambridge.

Status: Single, or in a casual relationship.
Marriage rate for millennials has declined, perhaps due to secularisation.

Education: Often have completed high-education, University.
Have high standards on their performance and determination within school.
Self-motivated through education, and more likely to succeed at high-level education

Lifestyle: Education is often a significant aspect of their lives, but also balanced with social aspects such as partying or clubbing. 
Most millennials will have some form of career, either part-time or full time work.
Social media is a large and influential part of their lives; constantly influenced and involved in social media platforms; mainly Instagram and Snapchat.
Busy lifestyle as they have to balance high-level education, with jobs that are often related to social media. (Social influencers, or YouTubers).

Hobbies/Interests: Creative interests that can be reflected through their education or work. Often interested in social media trends, or fitness and fashion. 
Less focus on reading, but more on pursuing their interests through technology; so massive fans of television. (Netflix).
Sporty; and prioritise their health by attending the gym regularly.
YouTube is a large interest; as most YouTubers are millennials.
Lifestyle magazines, that feature celebrity input as well as societal trends and news.

Ethnicity: Mixed ethnicity.

Religious beliefs: Atheist, but has some spiritual beliefs.

Planning: I took some long shot images of the individual who would represent the actor, Rob Young, who stars in the film 'The Struggle'. I selected a bright, and appealing background to engage the audience; I kept a restricted colour palette in mind when taking these images to link back to my magazine article. By using warm, yellow tones in the image I was able to create convergence between my front cover, double page spread, and the title shown in the documentary. Using the rule of three, I ensured the individual was placed in the centre of the shot, and took up the majority of the image; to convey a high status and significance of a celebrity appeal to the magazine. In terms of proxemics, I placed the individual in the centre of the shot; to engage the audience, and to allow me to place my text on either side.
