Initial Ideas/ Brainstorm :

I have chosen to create a documentary which will have a factual style and tone on Homelessness in Cambridge. My show will be shown on Channel 5 as it has an informative tone and the majority of it's TV scheduling is showing factual shows. I need to continue my research into the style of documentary I want to create, and I will also continue research into the issue of homelessness. As I feel this is a severe and ongoing problem, whereby the victims of it are stereotyped and often misjudged.

Initially, I was considering focusing my observations on females that are homeless, however I have decided to broaden my target audience by researching into both genders. The majority of my research will be based around Cambridge, and will be focusing on the people that are affected in Cambridge by homelessness. I have decided that I will focus on individual stories of homeless people, and concentrate on their path into homelessness and briefly explore the impact it has had on their mental health.

I will include researched statistics, and overall facts to engage my audience and create a sense of realism to my show. By conducting secondary research into the rising figures of homelessness around the UK, it will add an authentic tone to my material in my magazine and audio visual.

I want my magazine to be focused on the same subject choice, I will explore the stories further of the individuals I talk to in my audio-visual. I want my front cover to have a celebrity appeal; so I perhaps will incorporate this by linking my show on homelessness to a film on homelessness. My double page spread will obtain the same informative and factual style as Channel 5 shows, but will relate to my millennial audience by using social media links.

Front page for magazine (planning + drafts):

Planning: I took some long shot images of the individual who would represent the actor, Rob Young, who stars in the film 'The Struggle'. I selected a bright, and appealing background to engage the audience; I kept a restricted colour palette in mind when taking these images to link back to my magazine article. By using warm, yellow tones in the image I was able to create convergence between my front cover, double page spread, and the title shown in the documentary. Using the rule of three, I ensured the individual was placed in the centre of the shot, and took up the majority of the image; to convey a high status and significance of a celebrity appeal to the magazine. In terms of proxemics, I placed the individual in the centre of the shot; to engage the audience, and to allow me to place my text on either side. I also left room on the top of the shot, to allow me to use a large, and bold title to create clarity and an appeal for my audie...
