Cast and Crew organisation:

Cast:
In order to create a sense of realism to my documentary, and portray my audio visual in an authentic style; I have decided to go to Jimmy's Night Shelter. By not using actors I will deliver the severity of the issue I wish to explore (homelessness), and not using actors conforms to the genre conventions of documentaries. I believe the material of first-hand accounts of these people will link to the severity of the issue; and mirrors the technique often used in Channel 5's documentaries.

I will use an interviewer to ask the questions to the people at Jimmy's; and I will create an interview plan to ensure I fulfills the 'A Key Turning Point' section of the brief. However, using editing I will focus on the individual's answers instead of the contributions from the interviewer.

To portray significant information, and give the audience an idea of the purpose and contents of the documentary I will use statistics on screen and perhaps will have a voice over to read the information. I also may include non-diegetic sound, in the form of a voiceover, by one of the homeless people I interview at Jimmy's. I believe this will create a psychological perspective to the issue from the victims of homelessness; and this will create pathos for the people I want to interview.

Crew:
I will need to organise both a cameraman, and someone to hold the microphone when i am conducting the interviews. However, my crew will need to be very minimal as there will be many moments whereby I am able to film or hold the microphone. Although, I believe as if having a second perspective on my work by having a crew member will be beneficial to my final product. Despite having crew members, I believe it is important for me to take the most significant role in my documentary; in terms of directing and producing my work.

My simplistic approach to my cast and crew; echoes that of a documentary as my aim is to focus purely on informing my millennial audience of the severity of the issue, and how homeless people are people too.

Front page for magazine (planning + drafts):

Planning: I took some long shot images of the individual who would represent the actor, Rob Young, who stars in the film 'The Struggle'. I selected a bright, and appealing background to engage the audience; I kept a restricted colour palette in mind when taking these images to link back to my magazine article. By using warm, yellow tones in the image I was able to create convergence between my front cover, double page spread, and the title shown in the documentary. Using the rule of three, I ensured the individual was placed in the centre of the shot, and took up the majority of the image; to convey a high status and significance of a celebrity appeal to the magazine. In terms of proxemics, I placed the individual in the centre of the shot; to engage the audience, and to allow me to place my text on either side. I also left room on the top of the shot, to allow me to use a large, and bold title to create clarity and an appeal for my audie...
