INSIGHT
Logline: (working logline)
A gripping documentary that uncovers the brutal reality of some individuals living rough in one of the most famous cities in the world. This show challenges conventional attitudes towards homelessness, by exploring personal journeys of many vulnerable people living on the streets.
Genre:
Docudrama (Expository Documentary), and there is a sense of genre hybridity as the character's stories I will explore have elements of romance, and action. This further engages my younger audience, as it keeps the narrative interesting and diverse. I will explore the element of drama using the diegetic sound of the residents I interview, instead of visually showing their stories. I will use a dramatic soundtrack to emphasise the docudrama genre, as well as portraying personal and emotional stories.
Audience:
Broad 18-35years millennial, but I will focus on female 20year olds as I will use inscription to target my audience. Using inscription I will direct my show's contents to my audience, and by exploring subjects such as poverty and wealth I will target both middle class people and working class. I will mainly relate to the working class due to the sense of struggle in my character's lives which could allow audience members to relate. But mainly I will target the social economic group of B1/B2; due to the tone and factual information of my magazine.
To target my age group, I will focus on mature topics such as violence, relationships, and drugs; as well as exploring emotional issues that maturer audiences can relate to.
Also, I will interview people of different ages to gain a diverse representation of who is homeless; and despite only interviewing women on the streets I will include statistics that relate to all homeless people.
Using montage editing and a fast-paced narrative I will target my audience of 20year old millennials.
Using the brand identity of my magazine I will target millennial; through engaging my readers with eh colourful and appealing nature of the front page. The brand identity of my magazine will link to the B1/B2 socioeconomic group; as the focus on facts, as well as social and economic issues will require high-level education and relate to people with an understanding of societal issues.
USP:
To challenge the conventional representation of homeless people that is constructed by the media, by changing the perspective of the documentary and showing reality from the character's lives.
My intention is to portray the reasons behind some individuals' situations or their pasts; in order to determine a more truthful representation.
The representation of the individuals in my show gives my show a USP, as the content will differ from the conventional representation of homeless people and of Cambridge.
My magazine will have the USP of featuring fun and easy-going material; such as fashion and fitness as well as celebrity inputs in forms of interviews. However, the magazine and my article will address serious and ongoing societal problems such as homelessness in the UK. My magazine will have both a societal tone, and will target millennials interests with social media, and societal trends; but also have political and economical content.
Convergence: (Horizontal Integration)
I will use my documentary to gain a foundation for my magazine cover, as I will select the most memorable character I interview and include them as the centre subject of my magazine cover. I will use some of the quotations from the conversations I have with individuals, and include them in my magazine spread to create a consistency to my products and make links.
In my magazine I will include more information on homelessness, and will convey more factual content about the severity of the issue. I will expand on the statistics I show in the opening sequence of my show.
To create a sense of realism I will emphasise the importance of shelters such as Jimmy's, to make audience members realise the severity of the issue.
To emphasise horizontal integration I will interrelate the colour palette, and tone from my documentary into my magazine spread.
To create familiarity, I will use repetition of the title, log line, characters and narrative images to create a sense of a brand identity.
I will also converge the design and style of my magazine with my documentary; by repeating the stills shown in my documentary in my double page spread. As well as that, I will reflect the colour of my title in the show; and emphasise this in my article and front cover.

Clear, thorough, interesting work: good sense of focus. Could perhaps be clearer on the 'drama' element, is this through re-enactment of elements of the personal stories?
