Recce Locations :

During the beginning of my documentary I will include some establishing, and long shots when indicating parts of Cambridge to my audience in order to give them an idea of the subject choice. I will focus on alley ways, door ways, and the streets to demonstrate where many homeless people have to spend their lives.

To juxtapose the expectation of Cambridge, as a clean and prestigious city, to the reality of the sense of poverty some people experience in Cambridge. I may include establishing shots of the shops, and universities to interpret Levi Strauss' theory of Binary Opposites, or clean and dirty, and wealth and poverty.

In terms of location, I am open to interpretation instead of following a strict structure, as I am working around my characters and where they are positioned I will film. However, I have determined key locations for my opening sequence, and places I am planning to film my characters in.

1. Jimmy's Night Shelter:

2. Sidney Street (doorway shot in initial sequence), Hobson's Passage (shown in the initial montage editing sequence and intro), other images depicting the unappealing side of Cambridge.

3. juxtaposition against shots of the unappealing side to other attractive parts of Cambridge; focusing on greens, Universities, or the city centre.

Front page for magazine (planning + drafts):

Planning: I took some long shot images of the individual who would represent the actor, Rob Young, who stars in the film 'The Struggle'. I selected a bright, and appealing background to engage the audience; I kept a restricted colour palette in mind when taking these images to link back to my magazine article. By using warm, yellow tones in the image I was able to create convergence between my front cover, double page spread, and the title shown in the documentary. Using the rule of three, I ensured the individual was placed in the centre of the shot, and took up the majority of the image; to convey a high status and significance of a celebrity appeal to the magazine. In terms of proxemics, I placed the individual in the centre of the shot; to engage the audience, and to allow me to place my text on either side. I also left room on the top of the shot, to allow me to use a large, and bold title to create clarity and an appeal for my audie...
