Overall shooting plan/ intentions :

My documentary will overall focus on the brutal reality of some individuals that are living rough in Cambridge, and will demonstrate a turning point in these individuals' lives. This episode will contrast the misconceptions of homeless people by looking into these individual's lives, and giving them the control to form a representation of themselves.

I want to emphasise the part of the brief, a turning point, by discussing the trigger or turning point in these people's lives that caused them to be homeless. By doing this I hope to communicate that homeless people aren't much different from other people, and infer the idea that anyone can become homeless. I want to explore these individual's pasts, and illustrate how homeless people have many personal experiences and successes alike everyone else.

Plan using: Content, Shots, Sound, Editing.

The documentary:

Opening sequence:
Shots of the wealthier parts of Cambridge, in a montage sequence.
Shots including statistics about the rise of homelessness over the past years.
Long shots, and establishing shots.
diegetic soundtrack, more upbeat.
Black out screen inbetween the shots.

Shots of the places homeless people sleep in Cambridge, in a montage sequence.
Shots including statistics on homelessness.
Some clips of people I have interviewed (most memorable moments)
Long shots, and establishing shots.
diegetic soundtrack, more sombre to create anticipation.

Title shown in front of image of the most memorable character (laughing/ smiling), or image of an unsettling part Cambridge.
Soundtrack then fades out, and black screen.

Main sequence:
Setting up questions (background information on the individuals)
Opening question will be Describe yourself, and use snippets in the montage sequence.
Medium long shots with no diegetic sound of the individuals, voiceover stating name, where they are from and how long they have been homeless.
Shots that correlate to discussions with the individuals to reality (cut away shots, using their voiceovers)

Ending sequence :
Concluding questions, (regarding advice to give, done differently)
Soundtrack (diegetic sound) will be slower to create suspense and emotion.
Close-ups, and medium long-shots.
Montage editing to place all the answers after that one question to create an impactful ending.
(No credits as its the beginning of the show, but still ends with a memorbale part)

Front page for magazine (planning + drafts):

Planning: I took some long shot images of the individual who would represent the actor, Rob Young, who stars in the film 'The Struggle'. I selected a bright, and appealing background to engage the audience; I kept a restricted colour palette in mind when taking these images to link back to my magazine article. By using warm, yellow tones in the image I was able to create convergence between my front cover, double page spread, and the title shown in the documentary. Using the rule of three, I ensured the individual was placed in the centre of the shot, and took up the majority of the image; to convey a high status and significance of a celebrity appeal to the magazine. In terms of proxemics, I placed the individual in the centre of the shot; to engage the audience, and to allow me to place my text on either side. I also left room on the top of the shot, to allow me to use a large, and bold title to create clarity and an appeal for my audie...
