Structured Plan :

Genre and Subject choice:
I have chosen to produce a documentary that will be shown on Channel 5, as after a textual analysis I have understood that a factual show such as a documentary is the most suited show for the channel. My subject choice will be homelessness, as this topic will be similar to documentaries on Channel 5 as it explores a working class group of people, and sheds light on a topic many people don't fully understand. I am introducing a new perspective to this documentary by giving the control to the characters, by the people I interview the control to construct their own representation.

Characters and Narratives:
I will focus on 4 different stories from 4 individuals in order to engage my audience with different perspectives and a variety of narratives. I have decided to use both female character's and male's stories in order to relate to my target audience of 18-35 millennials; using inscription I will directly engage with my audience, and create a sense of realism and even reliability. I will mainly focus on male characters; as I will produce a male's lifestyle magazine.

In order to establish my characters, I will visit Cambridge and find individual's willing to discuss their story of how they became homeless. By visiting Jimmy's Night Shelter and conducting some interviews there; I will ensure to gain material for my audio-visual and double spread magazine article. To ensure I get useable material for my documentary I will conduct around 4 interviews, which will allow me to select the best narratives sections  for my documentary and magazine.

I will focus on the beginning of my show, with the use of montage editing I will indicate the style of my show to my millennial audience. However the majority of my show will be done using continuity editing; to create the sense the audience is following the characters and their pasts. I will use a title sequence too, to create clarity in which part of the show I am displaying.

Camerawork and Editing:
I will focus on mainly medium long shots as well as close-up shots when interviewing people and hearing their stories; and I will use establishing shots of my location (Cambridge) when demonstrating statistics. My shots will highlight areas homeless people are forced to sleep in, and will show some images of Cambridge to establish the setting. I want the quality of my documentary to be high, and I want to use a variety of shots and editing techniques.

I will use montage editing at the beginning of my programme to indicate to the audience the style of my show, and give an insight to the type of characters and stories I will be following. I will use a series of continuity editing when showing the stories of my characters; but also will use cross-cut editing when swapping from different characters.

Magazine: (Double page spread and front cover)
I will use the stories I find at Jimmy's Shelter in the double page spread, to create a sense of convergence within my cross-media production. I will repeat the title within the article, and use images from the documentary; and use establishing shots of Cambridge to relate to my highly educated, B1/B2 millennial readers.

In terms of my front cover, I have decided to advertise my show in relation to a new movie called 'The Struggle'. This film will star an actor named Rob Young, who will be on the front cover. Rob Young and his crew will have directed the show for Channel 5, in relation to their film; as 'The Struggle' follows a man who is homeless. The article will feature an interview from the director, Rob Young, and will promote Channel 5's newest documentary which will be named 'More Than Homeless'.

Front page for magazine (planning + drafts):

Planning: I took some long shot images of the individual who would represent the actor, Rob Young, who stars in the film 'The Struggle'. I selected a bright, and appealing background to engage the audience; I kept a restricted colour palette in mind when taking these images to link back to my magazine article. By using warm, yellow tones in the image I was able to create convergence between my front cover, double page spread, and the title shown in the documentary. Using the rule of three, I ensured the individual was placed in the centre of the shot, and took up the majority of the image; to convey a high status and significance of a celebrity appeal to the magazine. In terms of proxemics, I placed the individual in the centre of the shot; to engage the audience, and to allow me to place my text on either side. I also left room on the top of the shot, to allow me to use a large, and bold title to create clarity and an appeal for my audie...
