First Draft:
Content:
In order to create convergence from my documentary and my magazine I included images of the medium-close up shots I took while filming of the individuals. I used images of the individuals looking happy, and pensive to show a more positive and appealing image on the individuals. By using action codes, as I selected stills from the individuals as they were speaking; it creates anticipation for the release of the documentary. I used simplistic images to create clarity with my article, as my main focus was the content; particularly the individual's stories.
To link my content to my front page, I used direct speech from Rob Young to add a sense of a celebrity appeal. This will target my audience even further, and links to the conventions of lifestyle magazines, which often have a significant celebrity contribution. I followed the style of GQ magazine by using a conversational tone to the article, and creating an easy-going style to the speech from Young. I integrated some superlatives and alliteration into the article too, to create an appeal for the audience; for example: 'delve deeper'.
To target my millennial audience, I added a social media link at the bottom right hand side of the page. This allows my content to reach different platforms, and interprets the idea of horizontal integration. By using the title of the documentary in the hashtag, it also creates more promotion and anticipation for the release of the documentary. I used the logos for the social media platforms, to create familiarity for my audience.
To follow conventions of magazines I have separated my text into columns; and I have used subheadings for each story, to follow the style of GQ magazine. Using the rule of three, I ensured the text takes up 2/3 of the pages; as I believe that the stories from the individuals link significantly to my documentary. I also added in page numbers to finalise my product, and add defining features of a double page spread.
Layout:
I placed the medium close-up shot of each individual under their story, to create clarity for the reader. I believe that my documentary and double page spread link well in terms of the content; as the documentary introduces the individuals, and the magazine explores their stories further.
I used establishing shots, and long shots of Cambridge to contextualise my article with the documentary's setting. I used a less recited colour palette in terms of these shots, to create a more appealing nature to the article.
I used the title 'The Truth Behind 'The Struggle', to link the documentary's content to the film's. I believe a statement like this will captivate my target audience, and will also engage the audience of the actor's fans. In terms of the z rule, I placed the title in the top left centre of the first page; to engage my audience as the title would be the first thing they view.
Final Draft:
Content:
I have since added captions to my establishing and long shots of Cambridge, to create further clarity of the images. I added the street names, and dates to subtle suggest the informative tone.
I removed the image of the establishing shot of Cambridge in the top right-hand corner as I felt it was uanessacry; and distracted the reader from the content.
Layout:
I also have changed the title of the article to a different font and colour; with the aim to create convergence to the titles on my front page. I enlarged the title of the article, and changed it to 'The Struggle' : The Truth Behind the Film' to demonstrate a more gripping and engaging title. I also considered the rule of three further by making it larger. By making 'The Struggle:' larger than 'The Truth Behind the Film' it emphasises the promotion of the film and engages the fans of the film.
I have added borders around each of my images to create a restricted colour palette, and to engage the reader more effectively. I also added a border around the social media links to allow them to stand out more, as these are significant in targeting my millennial audience.
I made some of the text bold, and italic; to highlight the significance of sections of the article. I made Young's direct speech italic, and made most primary statements from the individuals in bold text. Furthermore, I increased the font size of the names of the characters in the show to show their high status and suggest they are vital to the show.
