Initial Planning for front cover :

My front cover will be for a male's lifestyle magazine; and will create a further sense of convergence between my audio-visual and magazine elements. I will promote my show 'More Than Homeless' on the front cover; in bold, and in the same colour scheme as the title of the show in the documentary and using the same restricted colour palette in my double page spread.

To create a celebrity appeal I will use a photo of an actor I created, named Rob Young. Rob Young will have starred in the latest social realist film called 'The Struggle' which will focus on an individual man's challenges he faced on the streets. Using Rob Young, as the main focus of my front cover will link to my documentary, as Rob Young and his team directed the Channel 5 show.

Using the rule of three, Rob Young's image will take up 2/3 of the page; Bell Hooks and other feminist theorists would argue that the absence of women on my front cover conforms to the patriarchal society. I will have the title of my magazine 'REVEAL' in bold, and in the top left hand corner of my page; as this fits conventions of men's lifestyle such as GQ magazine. I will have articles on either side of the long-shot of Rob Young, in clear and bold font. To create a sophisticated style I will keep most of the font the same, but create a variety in the size and boldness of the text.

To target 'REVEAL' to my millennial audience, my articles will promote topics on fashion, fitness and politics. I will use media language in terms of persuasive, inclusive, and informative language to target the readers; and engage them.

Front page for magazine (planning + drafts):

Planning: I took some long shot images of the individual who would represent the actor, Rob Young, who stars in the film 'The Struggle'. I selected a bright, and appealing background to engage the audience; I kept a restricted colour palette in mind when taking these images to link back to my magazine article. By using warm, yellow tones in the image I was able to create convergence between my front cover, double page spread, and the title shown in the documentary. Using the rule of three, I ensured the individual was placed in the centre of the shot, and took up the majority of the image; to convey a high status and significance of a celebrity appeal to the magazine. In terms of proxemics, I placed the individual in the centre of the shot; to engage the audience, and to allow me to place my text on either side. I also left room on the top of the shot, to allow me to use a large, and bold title to create clarity and an appeal for my audie...
